San Bernardino, CA (Baseball) -- The Citrus College Baseball team exploded for 15 runs on Friday afternoon in a 15-2 win over host San Bernardino Valley College. The Owls rolled up 17 hits and scored all 15 runs in four separate innings.
Citrus got the fun started in the third inning when they posted a five spot. Sophomore Robert Wiley kicked off things with an RBI single to right field. Fellow soph Shane Fraijo followed that up with a two RBI double to left, and freshman Michael Rowland finished it all up three at bats later with a two RBI single to center.
With the offense doing more than enough, sophomore Mikey Ramirez was strong in his second start on the hill. Ramirez (2-0) pitched seven innings, giving up 11 hits, two runs (one earned), and striking out six batters in the process. The Wolverines got to Ramirez with a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, the second of which cut Citrus’ lead to just three runs.
The Owls quickly put some cushion in their lead with four more runs in the sixth. Fraijo drove in two more runs, as did sophomore Nick Oddo. Citrus scored three more runs in each the seventh and eighth innings putting the Wolverines down for good.
In the win, Citrus got some impressive performances throughout the lineup. Freshman Brandon Castaneda was 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBI’s from the lead-off spot. Wiley finished 2 for 2 with a pair of scores, and Fraijo went 2 for 5 with two runs and four RBI’s.
With the win, Citrus improves to 3-3 on the year. The Owls will be back at home on Wednesday when they play host to Mt. San Jacinto College. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
